Should You Include a Thank-You Note in Every Poshmark Package?
When sending out Poshmark packages, is it always necessary to include a thank-you note? It’s a common question resellers ask themselves—especially newbies who want to make sure they’re doing everything juuust right.
In this blog post, I’m sharing:
Whether or not thank-you notes are important
The pros and cons of thank-you notes
Suggestions for those who DO want to include thank-you notes
ARE THANK-YOU NOTES IMPORTANT?
When I first began selling on Poshmark, I always included thank-you notes. I read online somewhere that they were a “must” and never questioned it. Not only that—I was SO extra. I would hand-letter the words “Thank You” in swirly cursive writing and personalize every little detail. It was tedious—especially when I had several packages going out on the same day. Luckily for me, a fellow reseller happened to share on her Instagram story that she never includes thank-you notes in her packages. Not only that—it wasn’t affecting her sales one bit.
I was already struggling to maintain my arduous thank-you note process. My sales were steadily increasing and it was becoming painfully clear that I was headed straight for burnout. So despite my trepidations, I decided to stop including thank-you notes and just wait to see what would happen. And guess what? Business resumed as usual. Customers were just as satisfied with their purchases and my 5-star ratings kept pouring in.
So: are thank-you notes important? In my opinion, no.
But let’s weigh the pros and cons:
PROS AND CONS OF WRITING THANK-YOU NOTES
Pros
-Adds a personal touch
-Might make the unboxing experience slightly more memorable
-Could potentially yield repeat customers
-May sway buyers to give you a higher rating
Cons
-Takes time and attention away from tasks that are actually profitable
-Wasteful because it ultimately ends up in the trash
-Incredibly tedious when you have multiple sales per day
-Not shown to affect sales in a significant way
TIPS FOR MAXIMIZING THANK-YOU NOTES
If you’re still Team Thank You-Note, here are my suggestions for making the most of your time and resources:
Mass produce
If you’re making a decent amount of sales, you will eventually reach a point where handwriting every single thank-you note becomes logistically impossible. Instead of trying to personalize every little detail, type out your message and slap it on a customized thank-you card that you can order in bulk. For a personal touch, leave an empty space at the bottom to sign your name. That way, you maintain a handwritten element while eliminating all the extra unnecessary effort.
Don’t know where to design your own custom Thank-You card? Here are sites I suggest:
Use it as a marketing opportunity
Instead of writing the generic, “Thank you for your purchase, I hope you love it! Blah blah blah…” take this as an opportunity to market to your customer so they shop your closet again. You could offer a special discount by saying, “Thanks for shopping (insert your closet name)! Message me and mention ‘REPEATCUSTOMER’ for $10 off your next purchase.” Feel free to get creative with your discount offer (i.e. $20 off your next purchase of $75 or more). Or, if you’d prefer they take a different action (e.g. follow you on Instagram, sign up for your email list, make their next purchase on the secondhand clothing website you just launched) you can tailor your message to include that instead. The point is—don’t waste your words on fluff. Always include a call to action.
